30 TRAVEL LESSONS FROM MY 30S

Taurus season has come to a close and, as one myself, I have been doing some reflecting. This birthday marks the last year of my thirties, and as I think of ways I can signify the big 4-0 next year, I looked back at my last decade of travel and what I realized, in no particular order.

1. There is almost nothing a golden, flaky croissant can't fix.

2. Jet lag and time zones hit harder as I get older, and setting multiple alarms is the norm.

3. The journey truly is the destination and was all along.

4. A good hotel is not a luxury, it is imperative to my well-being. I'm sorry but also, not sorry.

5. I never regret packing lighter.

6. Dressing comfortable is now non negotiable and doesn't have to mean sacrificing style.

7. If I don't buy the cute souvenir, I might regret it later.

8. Wearing oversized coats is my love language.

9. Trying new bakeries has become a personal and delicious mission.

10. I want to be in my "renting a countryside cottage for a week" era but haven't figured out the logistics yet.

11. Planning a self care day for when I get home has lessened post travel blues, only a little.

12. Coffee is well, everything.

13. London is still my favourite place in the world, and I love watching my relationship with it evolve. I am so thankful for its familiarity and presence in my life.

14. I no longer want to check off a bunch of countries just to say I did, but there are still lots of places I want to see.

15. Embracing staycations and exploring my own backyard is a positive thing.

16. Sometimes no plan is a plan.

17. Paris is still magic in my eyes.

18. A streamlined airport routine will take one far in travel and in life.

19.  I love the realness and authenticity of New York City. It is so good for the soul. Also,  Hamilton was worth the 10 year wait.

20. I used to outline trips and anticipate them like it was second nature, and now I feel bad at it. I want to find my vacation planner spark again.

21. I  feel a sense of credibility and am proud to know "a thing or two" about the places I have been and seen.

22. Living abroad is a life altering event. After it was over, I wondered how I was ever going to top that. Thankfully, life moves on and we aim for other dreams and goals.

23. Everything happens for a reason, even if it's not obvious at the time.

24. I am still finding a happy medium between leisurely travel and clocking over 20,000 steps in a day.

25. Bringing Kleenex to a theatre is necessary, because apparently I cry at every performance now.

26. It's okay if that outfit I had been planning for months in my head looks terrible and I don't end up wearing it.

27. Getting some sleep on international flights will, in fact, make me feel more refreshed.

28. Tokyo is by far the coolest city to wake up in.

29. Prioritizing a simple skin care routine and rest on the go is essential and, kind of fun.

30. I started my very first travel blog when blogs were a dime a dozen, and while some say it is a "dying art", I still love my corner of the internet all these years later.
