GAIL'S BAKERY IN HAMPSTEAD
Gail's Bakery is an established and successful bakery chain with stores all over the UK. No matter where you go in London, you are sure to find one. But there was something special about visiting the original location on Hampstead High Street.
Gail's started out in the 90s with a clear vision of baking delicious, quality bread. Despite being spoiled for choice, I decided to go with a croissant. This one checked all the boxes in terms of being golden, flaky and buttery. I also ordered a beautifully crafted flat white that I sipped on. The bakery obviously had some talented baristas as well as bakers. There is indoor and outdoor seating but the inside is tiny so it fills up fast! Like many bakeries, the atmosphere is as important as the food. I loved the simple but quaint decor and small details like the red, Victorian style awning.
If you are looking for more than pastries, you are in luck. Gail's has an extensive menu that includes other treats like cinnamon buns, cakes and cookies. If you are just in time for lunch, you can also order tasty sandwiches, quiche or salad. Ideal for a cozy weekend or a fast paced week day, I see why the bakery's success continues to grow.
It's no secret Gail's has become incredibly popular, but for visitors like me the novelty has not worn off. That being said, I would especially recommend this Hampstead spot where it all started. Afterwards, you can take a walk along Hampstead Heath or the classic Flask Walk.
