NEW YORK CITY HIGHLIGHTS PART 3
One of the best things you can do in New York City is see a Broadway show. I think everyone knows that. As a theatre lover myself, it is at the top of my list. But what you do on the day of the show can be just as special. I think show days are the perfect opportunity to have a lowkey day in the city, whether it be strolling the parks or swanky shopping avenues.
The night of a Broadway show is full of exhilarating moments. That is why I believe the hours leading up to it should include downtime. At the same time, you still want to see as many sights as possible. We decided to walk up to Bryant Park from Times Square. The walk alone was great, as the city was just waking up. New York becomes electric at night so it is interesting to pass by the sleepy theatres and billboards in the daylight. It is also a perfect walking city, especially with a coffee in hand. Bryant Park is a public park located in Mid-Town Manhattan. I would consider it more of a square but it is adorably charming with leafy trees and bistro seating scattered everywhere. There are many little bars, cafes and gardens to enjoy. It also hosts various events for every season so there is always something happening. Despite that, it was too tempting to not hop on the subway and head uptown to a different park.
Central Park. You may have heard of it. This is the most famous park in New York, and possibly the world? We have all seen it on countless sitcoms and movies. In reality, it still carries some of that film magic with its sprawling beauty and classic city backdrop. We visited on a weekend so one can only imagine how many joggers and cute dogs we seen. This is clearly the place to be on a Saturday morning. It is really hard to find a quiet place in New York, really hard. But Central Park is very peaceful and scenic. It is easy to see why it has been the setting of romcoms since movies were made. Central Park is so large that it is difficult to see it all. My best advice would be to start anywhere and enjoy the atmosphere.
After the park, we ended up passing by some of the most notorious shopping streets in the world including Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue. Despite spending the night before strolling Fifth Avenue (I had to buy a last minute item for the show), I could have spent literally hours admiring the designer stores and architecture. Even though New York can be a very real and raw city, it is also glamorous like no other. We continued walking, even making a quick stop at Grand Central Station, to top off the afternoon.
Like I said, I could have spent many more hours window shopping and people watching, but we had dinner reservations at 3:30 PM. This brings me to the next show day activity, which is dinner at a nice little Italian joint!
