RANKING LONDON'S CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

The best Christmas market in the world is up for debate. But when it comes to the best lights and decorations, London will win every time. I always get excited when London switches on its iconic Christmas lights and love following along on social media. Today we are ranking London's best Christmas lights according to me.

Regent Street

1. Regent Street

Regent Street is my personal favourite. The famous angels, also referred to as the Spirit of Christmas, watch over Regent Street and are an uplifting staple in the city. As London is ever evolving, things always change but these angels can be counted on as London's most heartwarming Christmas decorations.

2. Bond Street

Mayfair is gorgeous at Christmas. The designer displays go above and beyond to dazzle shoppers. It is one of my favourite streets to stroll and a close second to Regent Street. Bond Street is a perfect combination of cozy and glamour. Bonus: Believe it or not this street can be a little quieter than neighbouring streets.

3. Carnaby Street

Carnaby Street always impresses this time of year. Rather than keep with tradition, it surprises everyone with a fresh, innovative idea. Carnaby goes bright, bold and exciting.  This year's 'Out of this World' theme looks particularly amazing.

4.Covent Garden

Covent Garden is a real charmer over Christmas and, 365 days a year let's be honest. During the holidays it boasts a towering tree that always garners attention. The covered market is always warm and cheerful. I loved wandering all of Covent Garden’s mysterious side streets and alleyways during winter. Don't miss Seven Dials, a road junction that could be easily missed but looks extra cute and sparkly this time of year.

5. Leicester Square

Leicester Square is an obvious choice as it is a hub of street entertainment, busking, cinema, theatre and more. If there is one place in London that doesn't sleep, I would say it is here. At Christmas, it has all the essentials including lights, trees and a popular Christmas market with festive treats and mulled wine.

St. James's

6. Knightsbridge

That awkward moment when you rank Harrods as best Christmas lights, but you remember it actually looks like that everyday. Literally, Harrods is always draped in lights and glows in the dark, standing out like the iconic store that it is. But this time of year, it is even more impressive, more busy and more iconic than usual. What could be better than strolling Hyde Park and than window shopping at the world's best department store?

7. Oxford Street

You may be expecting Oxford Street to score higher on the list. By all means, it is an absolute must during Christmas. But I figured Oxford Street gets more than enough attention. I have never known crowded until I experienced Oxford Circus at Christmas time. But you have to visit at least once during the holidays and if you are brave, maybe a few times. As soon as these lights switch on, you know the season has officially started.

8. South Molten Street

South Molten Street is an attractive, pedestrian-only shopping street somewhere between Bond Street and Oxford Street. This is another place that is best discovered by accident. Its vivid lights will catch your eye and the area is loaded with boutiques and cafes.

9. Belgravia

My core memory of Belgravia in December was chandelier Christmas lights dangling over Elizabeth Street. On any day, Elizabeth Street is one of the most gorgeous streets in London. It is so elegant and understated. You can imagine it with a little festive sparkle. It is also home to the famous Peggy Porschen, one of London's most adored bakeries.

10. St James's

St James's is such a beautiful part of London that is not well-known to visitors. That being said, it is surrounded by some of the most popular attractions including Piccadilly, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and of course, St. James's Park. I stayed at the Sofitel St James's hotel once years ago and still consider it my most luxurious hotel stay. I got quite attached to the surrounding area. Basically, I didn't want to leave. At Christmas, St James's looks super charming and has some adorable angel lights of its own. Look out, Regent Street.
