IS SEPTEMBER THE BEST MONTH TO TRAVEL?

September often signifies the end of things: the end of summer and the end of freedom for many as school and work begins again. But September can be one of the most beautiful months to travel. Actually, each time the weather turns this time of year I get a pang of wanderlust. If your schedule allows, here are reasons to just go.

September weather is more often than not, ideal. You have remainders of summer but fall is making its appearance. This means you may have warm, sun drenched days but the evenings and mornings will be crisp. The skies are usually blue and for the most part, temperatures are mild. I think we can all attest that traveling in the heat of summer is amazing but, challenging. September weather is much more comfortable for exploring.

Crowds. One of the best reasons to travel in the shoulder season is less crowds. In September you have a better chance of seeing famous monuments without having 100 other people in your photos. Imagine having Big Ben or the Trocadero in Paris to yourself. Well, I can't make promises that will ever happen. But you would have a better chance than if you went in July.

Next is wardrobe. September seems like the perfect opportunity to put together a flawless travel capsule wardrobe. It is still jeans and t-shirt weather but now you have the option of throwing on a blazer or light jacket. Strolling a city, coffee in hand, feels so much better when you do not have to peel off all of your layers due to heat exhaustion.

Finally, be a rebel. There are no rules you have to be visit hot, beach destinations in the middle of summer. For example, I would like to see Barcelona in the winter time. Call me crazy. Bonus: airfare and hotel prices will likely go down. At least, one can hope. Going against the grain and seeing places in the offseason will have its rewards and September is a very happy medium.
