CREATING A SPRING TRAVEL CAPSULE WARDROBE

I love the capsule wardrobe. Besides saving time and money, I find it makes getting dressed a more pleasant experience. This is the first time in years I was able to pack...for an international trip. It was so exciting. I loved choosing what I would consider my first Spring Travel Capsule Wardrobe. The ease of getting dressed everyday made my travel experience a little lighter (literally).

Here is a complete breakdown of the clothes I packed for my trip. I did not include my airport clothes which, since I was wearing on the fly did not take up room! For context, this is for one week in London in March.

The Daily Uniform

1 TRENCH COAT
First on the list is a trench coat. Personally, I think every spring wardrobe needs one. I prefer the oversized, beige style as it is a classic. I loved throwing it on and heading out the door to explore the city. While I am still looking for my dream trench, I found a great one before I left from Joe Fresh!

2 LIGHT SWEATERS
March is still considered sweater weather but since it's getting warmer, I opted for 2 light sweaters. I found fantastic basic knit sweaters from Zara that were perfect for wearing under the trench. I was never too warm or too cold in them. I went with  a black and striped style. I love a striped shirt because it is such a European staple.

1 PAIR OF BLUE JEANS
It is essential to bring a comfortable pair of jeans that you can wear repeatedly on your trip. My go-to used to be skinny, black jeans and while I still love those, I have been liking the classic blue, straight-legged jeans. They feel so easy and relaxed.

Formal

1 BLOUSE
I use the word formal very lightly, but if you need something to wear to an event or go somewhere with a dress code, this should have you covered. I always pack a blouse on a trip. For spring, I would go with a fresh, neutral colour like a creamy beige or white. Floral is also an option because, spring. You can of course just bring a dress but for March in London, I felt it was a little early for that.

1 PAIR OF FLARE BLACK PANTS
The black flared pants can be dressed up or down. I packed them for the purpose of pairing with the blouse but also wore them during the day. Any black pants will do the trick, but the flared style is really on trend right now. Plus, I grew up wearing black bell bottoms so, I am happy to see them back in a new and improved version. I went with the mini flare pants from Zara. They were cropped and sat just above my ankles. This worked well for rainy London days as it prevented the bottoms of your pants from getting wet. We have come a long way since the 90s and early 2000s.

Lounge

1 CREWNECK
Instead of pajamas, I usually bring a comfortable outfit that I can both relax and sleep in. That is personal preference. It is a great idea to bring pajamas or a lounge set. For now, I used my favourite Nike cropped crewneck that I basically live in at home.

1 PAIR OF JOGGERS
This is pretty self-explanatory. I brought a cozy pair of joggers to go with my crewneck! Perfect for those chill moments in the hotel.

1 PAIR OF YOGA PANTS
I brought  Lulu Lemon yoga pants and a top to wear on the go. The purpose of this is not to workout but to have a practical alternative to my daily uniform. For example, when I want to take a walk in the park or just don't feel like wearing jeans.

Shoes

1 PAIR OF LOAFERS
Loafers have to be one of the most timeless shoes. I adore them. I would recommend breaking them in before you travel to avoid blisters. These days, it is also in style to just wear plain old socks with loafers. You love to see it.

1 PAIR OF SNEAKERS
Last spring, I treated myself to a pair of Air Force 1s and in my opinion, they are worth the hype. I love how they elevate every outfit. I will never go anywhere without them again!

Accessories

MULTICOLOURED SCRUNCHIES
To say I love scrunchies, is an understatement. I have them in every colour. I love them for travel because they are a great way to control long hair on the go. They are great for a low ponytail and look elegant and adorable. I also love wearing them on the wrist for a pop of colour. Because I wear a lot of black and neutral colours, the more colourful the better. For spring, I went with pale blue, green and pink shades. This is a really cute spring accessory to throw in your suitcase.

2 HATS
Since March weather can be unpredictable, I wore two kinds of hats. I went with a warm black beanie and a Nike baseball cap, which I actually bought in London at JD Sports.

CROSSBODY PURSE
I have been traveling with cross-body bags as long as I can remember. The one I brought on this trip, and plan to bring in the future, is a beautiful brown Fossil bag. It looks great with anything and fits all my things. I also brought the Fossil watch that I have been wearing for the last decade. I would recommend packing at least one piece of signature jewelry that you love to wear.

SUNGLASSES
Sunglasses are definitely needed for the spring travel wardrobe, but since it is not summer quite yet, less is more. I would go with a more minimal and understated design.

Recommended

1 SCARF
I had an oversized scarf in my hands in London but ultimately, put it back. I definitely should have bought it as a scarf is the ultimate spring accessory to wrap around yourself. It accentuates your outfit and provides a warm layer, especially for those breezy, riverside walks in London.
