LONDON'S BEST CHRISTMAS PUBS

It is a rite of passage to stop in a cozy pub during the holidays. It is highly recommended, anyway. Here are 5 pubs in London that I just know are cozy during the holidays, either from experience or very important, extensive research.

CHURCHILL ARMS

The historic Churchill Arms might be the most obvious choice for Christmas pubs in London. It is somewhat of a landmark in Kensington because of its beautiful floral displays. During the holidays, the pub exchanges flowers for Christmas trees and thousands of lights. When I say the pub is literally covered in Christmas trees, that is exactly what I mean. I was so happy to find it on an unexpected walk through Kensington one weekend, after escaping the Portobello Road crowds. Churchill Arms is unapologetically festive and comes out on top for best Christmas pubs.

THE THOMAS CUBITT

Belgravia is a secret among locals, but holds its own as one of the most beautiful districts in the city. Between the elegant streets, storefronts and hidden mews, Belgravia is worth visiting all year long. At Christmas, it's a little extra special, like many places in London. Located on gorgeous Elizabeth Street, The Thomas Cubitt is a popular, traditional pub with a country twist. I was lucky enough to enjoy dinner here on a December night (I can recommend the fish and chips) and loved the warm, local atmosphere.

THE ARGYLL ARMS

It's not always possible to seek out hidden gems. Sometimes you need convenience, and there is nothing more convenient (or busy) than Oxford Street during the holidays. The Argyll Arms, located in Oxford Circus, is a realistic option for tired Christmas shoppers to relax. With Victorian interior and classic British cuisine, it checks all the boxes.

THE HOLLY BUSH

Hampstead is one of the few London neighbourhoods I have never explored but know by reputation. This North London beauty is known for its village-esque feel and celebrity residents (there are quite a few!). I have seen photos of the Holly Bush and it always looks lovely, charming yet modest, a bit like Hampstead itself. Basically, it is the perfect little local. At Christmas, it becomes even more inviting with delicious Christmas dining among a roaring fireplace. Where do I sign up?

THE ROYAL OAK

West London is great and all, but we can't forget the east. The long lost indie traveler in me always has to give some love to this side of town. Between the vibrant street art and vintage shops, a walk in east London is always good for the soul. I chose The Royal Oak for this list because of its prime location on Columbia Road, home of the adored flower market. I imagine strolling the Sunday stalls, which will no doubt be very beautiful this time of year, and then warming up here in time for lunch. Residents say this is the most loved pub in Bethnal Green and, I believe them.
