10 REASONS TO TAKE A STAYCATION

This summer I had a staycation and it felt good. The staycation is something like a holiday in your own home. Traveling is my biggest passion but I enjoy being a homebody too. Spending the summer at home was nice and I'm surprised how fast it went considering I didn't really go, well...anywhere. Here are 10 reasons why you should take a staycation too:

1. You can *actually* relax. A vacation is supposed to refresh you but that's not always the case. Many times you feel pressure to make the most of your time and end up busier than ever. That is why people say they need a vacation after their vacation! If you spend time off at home there is never any rush and you can do things at your own pace. You can truly recharge your batteries and even disconnect for a while if you choose to do so.

2. You can be a tourist...in your own town. Sometimes visitors know more about a place than locals. That is because most people take for granted what they can see everyday, and that is normal. If you force yourself to actually explore your surroundings you will probably find things you never knew existed. You might notice that cool mural on the wall or the cute coffee shop that opened. You might even go full tourist mode and start taking pictures of your own neighbourhood. I mean, I may have done that once or twice.

3. Family and friends are close by. A staycation is a great reason to spend time with loved ones or see a friend you have not seen in a while. If you go on a trip there is not a lot of time to spend together doing nothing, and who doesn't love doing nothing sometimes!

4. You can work on a hobby. Often when we are working we are too tired to do things we really love to do. A staycation is a great opportunity to focus on your interests whether it be a special project, camping, music or blogging. You might even take up something new, like jogging. I tried that once.

5. There is no itinerary. Traveling comes with planning but on staycation, you don't need a plan. There is not set time or place to be. You are in charge of your own schedule and can change your mind at any moment. You don't have to set an alarm, catch a flight or show up for a reservation and everything you need is right in front of you.

6. You can get outside. Summers where I live are short and sweet so it's important to make the most of the sunshine. Unfortunately our weather was not as warm as usual but I still managed to get outside most days. Taking advantage of the fresh air and getting a tan always feels amazing. These long summer days will seem like a dream once winter comes!

7. Be appreciative of the simple things. Home is sometimes the best place to enjoy the little things in life-that first sip of coffee, a long sleep in, a good movie, and so on. Try to notice those happy moments and take them in.

8. You can keep routine in your life. It can be great to escape routine but sometimes we need it. When you are home you can keep your sleep, eating or exercise habits pretty normal and not go too off track.

9. You can dream of your next destination. One of the best parts of traveling is anticipating the journey. If you have the time, why not do a little research and plan for your next trip? That will definitely make your staycation a little sweeter.

10. Your dog lives here. Enough said.
